Mrs. McColl's work in Public Schools

Mrs. McColl creates alternative learning opportunities for the academically disengaged elementary school student. Mrs. McColl meets with students one-on-one with the sole goal to assist students in understanding their unique learning style better.

Alternative Education at the elementary school level is primarily about making academics make sense for students. Many options have been reverse engineering, hands-on, minds-on community service, community art, student-led newspaper, dance, and music enrichment. These alternative learning opportunities often build student self-esteem, increase academic engagement in general ed, executive functioning learning, time management skills, create positive student to adult and student-to-student relationships. In the Summer of 2020, I worked to apply Maine State Standards and social/emotional benefits to these learning opportunities to increase understanding.

Mrs. McColl creates Alternative Education programming in elementary schools, assists students with time management and executive functioning skills, and is a dedicated student voice advocate.
"The goal is to reveal to the student they can be successful despite having a different learning style than that of their peers, and that that is okay!" What works for most doesn't always work for ALL!" - Mrs. McColl
